Red is one of the hottest colours of the season. It exudes strength and motivates us to take action.
Having said that, some women shy away from it as they struggle to find the right shade of red that would suit them. It’s not surprising as red comes in different hues like burgundy, scarlet or crimson.
With this in mind, I put together a short guide to help you choose the perfect shade of red to complement your skin tone. Determine Your Undertone
Our skin has a cool (pink), warm (yellow) or neutral undertone. If you aren’t sure what your undertone is, you can determine it with one of these simple tests. It’s that easy!
Think about what metal looks better against your skin. If gold jewellery makes your skin glow, you’re most likely to have a warm undertone. If you prefer the way silver jewellery looks on you, you’re probably cool-toned. If both silver and gold look good on you, you probably have a neutral undertone.
Look at the veins in your wrist. Blue veins indicate a cool undertone. If your veins appear to be green, then you have a warm undertone. If you can’t determine the exact colour of your veins, then your undertone is neutral.
White T-shirt or piece of paper test
Remove your make up and hold a white T-shirt or piece of paper under your chin. If you have a warm undertone, your face will appear to have a yellow tone to it. However, if your skin undertone is cool, white colour will make your skin look a bit blue.
Find the right shade of red
If you’re warm-toned, you will look great in copper, poppy red, ruby, rust and scarlet.
If you have a cool undertone, you should opt for auburn, burgundy, crimson, berry and maroon.
