Be Yourself and Love Your Quirks

Love your quirksLet’s imagine for a moment that we are all alike. Wouldn’t that be boring?

I recently dug out a box full of my university notes and came across an essay I did on individuality as part of my Cultural Studies module. After all these years, it made quite an interesting reading and inspired me to write today’s post.

To tell you the truth, there was a moment in my life when I felt like an alien. I was more mature than some people my age and had a different outlook on life. I was (and still am) the quiet type who preferred to stay in and read rather than go out and party until morning. I was also the only person in my social circle who didn’t drink so some people said that I was weird.

Although hearing that made me question myself for a short while, I then realised that I’m completely normal and don’t have to follow the suit just to fit in. After all, the world would be a dull place if we all looked and acted alike.

So embrace your uniqueness and love your quirks. To give you a little boost to do so, today I’m sharing with you my quirks which shaped me into who I am today.

I love eating strawberries with pasta

I know this probably sounds gross to you but it’s an amazing dish. Simply mash the strawberries with some sugar and serve them with pasta.

I bite my lip

I can’t help but bite my lip whether I’m working on my plans or getting nervous about something.

I have a serious sweet tooth

Chocolate, ice cream, cupcakes…I can eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’m not joking.

I have a ‘scary’ looking doll sitting by my bed

When I was 7, my dad got me a doll which I still have to these days. Some people say that it’s freaky and looks like something you can see in horror movies. I don’t agree with them and I’d like to give it to my daughter if I ever have one.

I have an OCD about my teeth

I carry a toothpaste and toothbrush with me everywhere I go and brush my teeth each time I have coffee.

I wear socks in bed

My feet get really cold so I always put my socks on before going to bed.

  • I absolutely LOVE this post; it was so fun getting to know more about you! I’ve never heard of eating strawberries with pasta before, but I have to be honest and say that I’d be willing to try it, haha. Girl, I wish I was as committed about my teeth as you are! I do brush them twice a day, but it’s obviously better to brush them after each meal, especially after drinking coffee! One quirk about me is that I am quite impulsive. Whenever I get something new either for the house or a piece of clothing, I have to clean the entire house. Don’t ask me where this came from, I have not a clue, but I just have to, lol. Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you’re having a great week so far!

  • Toyas Tales

You sound a bit introverted like myself and we both share a passion for sweets. though I think I will pass on the strawberries and pasta, lol. My quirk is that I talk to myself and don’t realize I’m doing it out loud sometimes until someone tells me.

  • I think it’s a great treat to have. I think that in general people need to laugh more.

  • Hope you are having a great week.

  • They definitely help shape us into who we are.

  • Simply Avalon

We’re in the same boat where sweets are involved haha. I’d say that one sorta weird thing about me is my laughter. I tend to laugh at nearly everything a trait that has helped me to see a glass half full. 🙂

  • You make such a great point, life truly would be boring if we were clones of one another! How interesting you wear socks in bed by the way, I used to be the same way! Something shifted this year though and now I literally c-a-n-n-o-t sleep with socks on haha.

It’s true, we should all embrace our individuality, it’s what makes us unique and interesting! I never thought of eating pasta and strawberries together, but it sounds really interesting!

  • I totally agree. We are all different and should embrace it. Even if some of our behavior may seem weird.

  • It’s amazing when people embrace their uniqueness and individuality. I love pasta and I love strawberries, but I never thought about mixing them together. I definitely need to try that out .

  • I agree, embracing these things that make us who we are is so important! I might need to try strawberries and pasta. 😉 My nana loved popcorn with milk.
